Welcome to Preferred Management

Strengthening Rural Hospitals, Medical Clinics and Healthcare Services

Most rural hospitals were adversely impacted by the introduction of capitated payment systems. Suddenly, there were new problems to address and the old model of operating a rural health care facility simply did not provide solutions.

The advent of the Critical Access program provided many hospitals with the framework for a new approach to facility operations, but the question still facing many community hospitals today is: “How do we work within this framework to supply high quality, comprehensive and personalized primary care while maintaining financial stability?”

Preferred Management provides serious solutions for community hospitals wishing to offer comprehensive primary care with a personal approach, while still maintaining a healthy bottom line.

Our History

Making rural healthcare better, since 1987.

Preferred Management has partnered with rural communities to deliver quality healthcare services for over 32 years.

The business was incorporated in 1987 by a group of health care veterans with extensive experience in rural and community hospital management, finance and operations. The home office staff has since grown to include over 25 members with experience in physician recruitment and retention, human resources, pharmacy management, quality assurance and performance improvement, regulatory compliance, grants and 1115 waiver funding, strategic planning and marketing, healthcare informatics, rural health clinic operations and billing, home healthcare and hospice services, and quality assurance.

From the beginning, Preferred Management has been a leader in hospital management. Our managed hospitals include: Parmer Medical Center in Friona, Texas and Arbuckle Memorial Hospital, Sulphur, Oklahoma.

In recent years, local hospital districts and community boards have recognized the benefits of leasing their local hospitals to Preferred. The leasing model allows the hospital district or board to maintain oversight while maintaining a more stable environment. Our leased facilities include: Coleman County Medical Center, Coleman, Texas; Collingsworth General Hospital, Wellington, Texas; Culberson Hospital, Van Horn, Texas; Kimble Hospital, Junction, Texas; Sabine County Hospital, Hemphill, Texas; Mulsehoe Area Medical Center, Muleshoe, Texas; and Schleicher County Medical Center, Eldorado, Texas.

Although the operation of hospitals remains the primary business of Preferred, other service areas have evolved from the need of Preferred hospitals. As a result, the partners of Preferred also have experience in the management of physician clinics, home health agencies, rehabilitative therapy centers, skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities and assisted living facilities.
